I am an AHPRA registered Psychologist with Forensic endorsement. I completed my tertiary education and training in the UK obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with Law Honours degree at the University of Plymouth in 2007, and a Master of Science in Forensic Psychology (with Distinction) from the University of Kent in 2009.During my MSc I completed a research dissertation exploring the moral and social exclusion of people convicted of sexual offending, the results of which were published in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology. I undertook a Postgraduate Diploma in Practitioner Forensic Psychology (PGDip) with Cardiff Metropolitan University between 2014 and 2018. This qualified me to register with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Forensic Psychologist in the UK.
I commenced work in the field of psychology in 2010 when I obtained a position as a Psychological Assistant in His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) primarily delivering group treatment programs to adult men in custody. I moved location and was employed in the same role at another prison where I designed and delivered individual treatment, as well as a range of offending behaviour programs. This role required the administration of psychometric testing, assessment of individual suitability and treatment needs, and writing of treatment reports for use in the forensic setting. In 2013, I obtained a position as a Trainee Forensic Psychologist working for HMPPS Forensic Psychological Services (FPS) in Wales. This was a full-time paid role which comprised of professional training and supervised practice, and was concurrent to the PGDip. Following qualification, I was employed as a Registered Forensic Psychologist with FPS in Wales until I migrated to Australia in December 2019.
In 2020, I completed the AHPRA transition program for overseas trained psychologists and obtained registration with forensic endorsement. I was employed by the Department of Justice at this time, briefly undertaking the role of Senior Programs Officer while completing the AHPRA transition program, before being employed as a Forensic Psychologist across both the FPS and Adult Community Psychological Services teams. I have provided a full range of psychological services to staff and clients in my forensic work such as; designing and delivering individual and group therapy; conducting a range of psychological assessments and presenting as a professional witness; developing and implementing teaching and training programmes for staff; delivering a wide range of consultancy services to staff in custody and the community; and supervising the practice of colleagues.
In 2023, I moved into the Out of Home Care space and commenced work with an NGO providing therapeutic services to foster families and the professionals working with them. In this I broadened my skill set and developed skills in supporting the maintenance and development of healthy caregiver-child attachment relationships, navigating family dynamics and parenting issues, and understanding/responding to complex psychological presentations.
Throughout my career I have engaged in professional development and remained up-to-date with contemporary issues in psychological practice. I have engaged in numerous courses and training, and met my regulatory requirements for continuous professional development.
