Sian's Resume

I am registered to practice as a psychologist within Australia. I hold the endorsement of Clinical Psychology with the National Registration Board (an endorsement on registration indicates that a psychologist has additional qualifications and supervised experience in an area of practice). I am a Board approved supervisor and have 8 years’ experience providing clinical supervision to provisional psychologists, students completing their master’s degree in clinical psychology, and Clinical Psychologist Registrars. I am also experienced in providing clinical consultation to social workers, occupational therapists, youth workers, and carers within the out of home care sector.

I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the APS College of Clinical Psychologists. My tertiary experience includes a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Psychology (University of Western Australia, 2004) and a Master of Applied Clinical Psychology (Murdoch University, 2008).For the past 12 years I have worked at Parkerville Children and Youth Care Inc, providing clinical assessment and treatment to children, young people, adults and families who hold complex trauma histories, often involving child abuse and experiences of out of home care. I currently manage the 25 psychologists employed within Parkerville’s Therapeutic Family Services directorate and have coordinated Parkerville’s two specialist Child Sexual Abuse Therapy Services (CSATS) for the past 9 years. I have also recently commenced part time private practice at Mindstate Psychology Services. Prior to my paid employment I gained volunteer and practicum experience providing psychological services at Sir Charles Gairdener Hospital, Swan Districts Hospital, Department of Disability Services, and Gosnells Womens Health Service.

Through my work I have gained extensive experience within the areas of mental health, post-natal anxiety and depression, child development, child abuse, family separation, out of home care experiences, attachment, risk assessment, and parenting issues. I hold particular clinical interest in the treatment to individuals who have experienced child sexual abuse, children and young people who demonstrate harmful sexual behaviours, and reproductive issues.  I am also keenly interested in the field of psychological assessment. I am experienced in the completion of cognitive, complex psychological and medico legal assessments, including criminal injuries compensation. I am actively involved in professional training and community education. I have presented locally and nationally on issues related to the impact of abuse and trauma on child development and behaviour, responding to risk, and the assessment and treating harmful sexual behavior in children and young people.

As part of my professional development I have attended numerous training courses and seminars. Among the more significant courses are Risk Assessment and Safety Planning (2007), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (2008 and 2012), Protective Behaviours (2008), Neuroscientific Approaches to Healing and Recovery (2010), Report Writing for Court (2011), Schema Therapy (2013), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR Level One and Two; 2017 and 2018), EMDR with Children and Adolescents (2017), Parenting Capacity Assessment (2019). I also undertake regular supervision to continuously develop my knowledge and skills. I am current with the Professional Development training requirements of the AHPRA which requires I attend training relevant to my expertise.
