Celia Smith

Celia is an engaging, motivating, results-focused psychologist. She has a military background and particular expertise in working with armed forces, emergency services, mining/gas and medical personnel and people working in high-risk conditions.

After a successful career as a commissioned officer in the Australian Army, Celia worked in a range of industries globally, and gained an MBA. Years of experience working in high-stress, high-stakes environments lead Celia to an interest in psychology, which she studied at Monash University and Bond University. Her research on the psychology of decision-making in first responders was presented at the Clute Institute in the US.

Celia specialises in working with adults. She works forensically and collaboratively – helping clients to understand what’s going on for them –and then working together to find effective solutions to help them move forward with their lives.

Experienced in working with complex psychological conditions, including trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Celia also works with clients dealing with key life stressors and difficult events using techniques such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing).

Celia is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, Australian Association of Psychologists Inc, EMDRAA, EMDRIA, System Leadership Development Association and Disaster Response Network. She currently divides her time between private clients, government agencies and working as a clinical supervisor.

Qualified and experienced inworking with complex trauma and adverse events using a plethora of therapeutic techniques, including EMDR and Schema. Member of the Australian Psychological Society, Australian Association of Psychologists Inc, EMDRAA, EMDRIA, System Leadership Development Association and Disaster Response Network and security cleared to work with the Department of Home Affairs and Department of Defence.

Psychology qualifications (Monash University/Bond University) and PsyBA supervisor credentials combined with qualifications as a Commissioned Officer in the Australian Army, Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Curtin University, Immigration Law (Deakin University) and a Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment ensures a balanced mature approach.
